I tend to write about what I find myself talking to others about. What are biorhythms you ask? The word biorhythm is defined as an innately determined rhythmic biological process or function (such as sleep behavior). They are what make up part of our own body’s natural clock. I heard about them for years but did not do any research. Once I put the Human Design widget on my phone at the beginning of the year, I have been paying more attention to my daily biorhythms and using them as yet another tool on the journey.
When I began becoming more familiarized, I was tickled to see it talk about the circadian rhythm being the most recognized type of biorhythm. The word circadian is derived from the Latin words “circa” (around) and “diem” (day), and is defined as being, having, characterized by, or occurring in approximately 24-hour periods or cycles (as of biological activity or function). Towards the beginning of my spiritual awakening, I kept hearing the phrase circadian rhythm seemingly everywhere and it drew me in. I started paying more attention to what my own body had been trying to tell me all along. It is believed that our bodies and minds operate on predictable patterns or cycles. Disruptions from our natural patterns can affect sleep, mood, and overall well-being.
Our biorhythms are the rhythmic cycles that start at birth and are thought to influence human behavior, whether we are conscious of it or not. They are invisible waves of energy contained within our human bodies that are constantly in flux, changing every day. Each of the biorhythms alternate between a positive phase (0% to 100%) and a negative phase (-100% to 0%). There are 3 main biorhythms, physical, intellectual and emotional. Main Biorhythms
The physical biorhythm (23 days) correlates with physical energy, strength, health and stamina. It influences energy levels, resistance, strength, endurance, eye hand coordination and disease resistance.
From -100% to 0%, energy is low, physical efforts are advised against, and it is suggested you take it easy for a while. From 0% to 100% vitality is high, ideal for sports training and physically challenging activities.
The intellectual biorhythm (33 days) reflects mental capabilities, creativity, and problem-solving aptitude. It originates in the brain, impacting memory, alertness, learning speed, reasoning and computational accuracy.
From -100% to 0%, grappling with new ideas becoming challenging. It may be better to wait on work that requires serious thought. From 0% to 100%, marks your peak intellectual responsiveness and indicate that your mental faculties are sharp. This is a great time to seek solutions that require logic and analysis.
The emotional biorhythm (28 days, parallels the Moon’s cycle!) influences emotional stability and stress. (See how the moon affects us!!). Governing the nervous system, it affects love/hate, optimism/pessimism, passion/coldness, and depression/elation.
From -100% to 0%, signifies that you are emotionally strong, have heightened creativity and warmth and are likely to have successful interactions with others. From 0% to 100%, it indicates you could be experiencing withdrawal, feeling less cooperative and have potential irritability. These are most likely times when you should take a step back.
Secondary biorhythms
The secondary biorhythms include spiritual, intuition, awareness and aesthetic. It is believed that the secondary biorhythms are to enhance specific aspects of the human experience and may be extensions of the main biorhythms.
The spiritual biorhythm (53 days) affects peace and harmony. From -100% to 0%, you may feel out of sync with the spiritual side of life. From 0% to 100%, you may experience intense mystical experiences and reach new spiritual heights.
The intuition biorhythm (38 days) affects unconscious perception, hunches and instincts. From -100% to 0% it is advised to shy away from making decisions because “you just know” and rely on a more analytical approach to decision making. From 0% to 100%, the powers of your intuition are at their strongest and you might even experience moments of serendipity. These high points are times when you should be more willing to trust your hunches.
The awareness biorhythm (48 days) affects cognition, learning and sense. From -100% to 0%, it may not be the best time to take on new projects. From 0% to 100%, you will have a deeper understanding of what needs to be done, and your reading comprehension and knowledge absorption will be at peak levels.
The aesthetic biorhythm (43 days) affects creativity and perception of arts. From -100% to 0%, it is best to put your energies into things that do not require large amounts of creativity. From 0% to 100%, you are most open to the arts, as well as being at the pinnacle of your own creative powers. These are perfect times to express yo’ creative self.

What’s the benefit of knowing your own biorhythms?
By looking at this as a tool, it could help you predict what times are better to do different important activities in your life or even look to a particular date to see what is mostly likely advantageous that day.
There is what they call “critical days” that are predicted to have a significant importance on different aspects of our lives. Understanding and being aware of our own biorhythms can provide us with valuable insight. It is all in how you want to use it. And luckily for you, in this day and time, there are biorhythm calculators that can do all the hard work for you. No having to pull out the calendar and figure it out (unless you want to, of course!).
While I do not solely rely on looking at charts and graphs to predict how my day is going to go, I do find it fascinating when I am drawn to look. Many times, when I feel compelled to write and share a story, I look at my biorhythms now and I am usually left with a smile.
