I have never experienced a bot quite like this one that is connected with Foy Vance’s Facebook page.
About 3 weeks ago, I was scrolling on Facebook and saw a newly posted video from Foy Vance with an acoustic version of his song, Burden.
It is such a beautiful song. When I listened, my body was filled with shivers (Spirit sparks). So accordingly, I left that comment on the video. Well, that’s where it began. The following day when I logged on, I found that “Foy Vance” had responded.
While I was humored and knew immediately it was not actually Foy replying back, I did want to leave what was on my heart that I had not previously shared with Foy, bot or not. The bot commented a couple other times on the post, assuring me that the account was not fake and that I needed to send a friend request because there was more to discuss privately. I knew that I did not want to click any more on the post because there was obviously something going on. Well, in my mind, I was done with the situation, but the bot decided to take it a step further!
The following day, the bot created a whole other account called “Foy Vance private inbox” and then went on my page to “like” a bunch of my posts.
I definitely was not clicking on any of those notifications either. The safest way my mind decided to check was to go directly to Foy’s page again and see what I was shown. The bot was going hard on all of the people who wanted to show Foy some love. Looking at the post, the other people who had commented also quickly caught on to the fraudulent Foy and were not falling for any tricks it/him/her (?) were intending to play. Whereas I would have previously felt secure in commenting on any post that was posted, I have now developed a hesitance, specifically for his page. That really sucks for Foy because I know I am not the only one who feels this way!!!
During the process of the bot going hard, I somehow earned a Top Fan Badge for Foy Vance, and I don’t even want to accept it!!! It is interesting after being gone from social media for a while and to then have this happen? I don’t really understand the long game. Who is really going to fall for the bot scam that is being done, and what does that scammer bot accomplish from it?
I chose not to interact with Foy’s page anymore. But then I noticed another run off from it. Other bots started liking posts, some of them commenting, requesting me to become friends and share my posts. I decided to also not respond to any of those people and to delete any friend requests from unknown accounts, especially accounts that only have a few friends or followers. I am not sure what is going on with social media these days, but I do not enjoy these aspects of it.
So, I logged in today, and the bot is after it again!
The whole experience is driving me to want to do another social media cleanse, maybe just from Facebook. Are other people experiencing this, too? This is not my first rodeo with fake accounts or bots, but this one has been next level, going 3 weeks strong so far!
While I may not be active now with the Facebook page, I will still be a fan.
